How this site makes money, what we measure, and the line we won't cross. Short, because there isn't much to it.
Where any of it comes from
Some links on this site may earn us a small commission, at no extra cost to you.
If we recommend a piece of gear and you buy it through our link, the seller may pay us a few per cent. You pay exactly the same price either way. That's the whole arrangement.
We also have merch and a YouTube channel, both of which may eventually earn something.
If we ever get paid to say something, it will say so, in the same paragraph, not in the footer.
Not much, and not about you specifically
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics. It tells us how many people visited, which pages they read, and roughly where in the world they came from.
It uses no cookies, it does not track individual visitors, it does not follow you to other sites, and it does not build a profile of you. There is no Google Analytics here, no Facebook pixel, and no advertising network.
We don't run ads, we don't collect email addresses, and we don't have accounts or logins to leak.
Please do
Everything technical on this site is one boat's experience, written down honestly. Some of it will be wrong.
Where something is measured, we say so. Where something is inferred rather than proven, we say that too. When we get something wrong and find out, we correct it on the page rather than quietly deleting it — the radar and sonar write-up has a corrections section for exactly that reason.
If you spot a mistake, or you know better, we'd genuinely rather hear it. Come and say so.
Say it plainly
Nothing on this site is navigational advice. Nothing here is a substitute for proper charts, a working depth sounder, a qualified installer, or your own judgement. Battery and electrical work carries real risk of fire and injury. Anything involving an engine can hurt you.
We're two people figuring out a boat and writing down what we learn. Treat it as that.
